First Time Claim Filer Orientation Instructions
First Time Filer Group Coaching Sessions are available for workers applying for jobless benefits for the first time. Trained instructors will walk users through the 6 easy steps to apply for and understand benefits. First Time Filer Coaching Sessions will be held virtually and in a group setting. You will receive an email with a link to use on your selected day and time.
First Time Filer Coaching Sessions are not intended for someone who has a current claim. If you have questions about past or current claims, please schedule an in person, phone, or virtual appointment.
Appointment Instructions
- Appointments are only for unemployment customers and the specific issues listed.
- The following situations require additional investigation by staff. Please make sure you have responded to fact finding sent by the agency through your MiWAM account. These items will not be resolved during your appointment time.
- Pending Payments/Payments pending manager review
- Non-monetary cases
- Stop payment indicators
- Additional claim indicators
- Overpayments
- Appointments do not include the option of filing new claims
- This appointment is not transferrable to another person.
- Appointments can be scheduled up to 14 days in advance. If no appointments are available in the upcoming 2 weeks, you'll see a message indicating the schedule is full and times are not available well in advance of today's date. Please continue to check back to try to schedule an appointment at a later time. - Please note, duplicate appointments will be cancelled. The earliest appointment will be saved.
- If you no longer need your scheduled appointment, please cancel it to allow someone else to schedule the time.
In Person Appointment Instructions
If you have COVID symptoms or have been exposed and present high risk, please do not report to our Local Offices. We encourage you to cancel your in person appointment and schedule a virtual appointment so that you may be assisted.
Please have your driver’s license or state identification card and Social Security number ready at the time of your appointment as your identity will need to be verified. If you are a POA or guardian representing a claimant, you must present the appropriate legal documents at the time of the appointment.
*For in person appointments, please select the location nearest to you. When you complete “your information”, step 2, please also provide the reason for your visit. You must arrive at the UIA local office at your scheduled time or be subject to rescheduling. Customers will be required to wear a mask.
